Methods are determined according to the needs of the surgery candidates.
Face lift surgery is one of the most frequently applied surgeries in aesthetic surgery. With aging, the facial expression looks more tired than it is. A younger and more dynamic appearance is obtained with face lift aesthetic surgeries. For this reason, face lift is very popular especially among women.
You can find everything you wonder about face lift surgery in the questions and answers below.
The facial region can be roughly classified as upper face, middle face, and lower face regions in terms of aesthetic and plastic surgery. In the upper face section; there are the eye area, eyelids, temple, and forehead region. In the middle face section; there are the lower eyelids, cheekbones, and cheek regions. In the lower face section, there are the mouth area, lower jawline, and neck region. Lifting methods change according to which region of the face the procedure will be applied to. For example; for a lifting procedure concerning the lower face, the "neck lift" procedure is applied. For the lifting procedure to be performed on the middle face, "middle face lift" is applied. For the upper face section, forehead lift, eyebrow lift, and blepharoplasty can be performed alongside. In short, a different lifting method is used for each region of the face. These methods are determined according to the face anatomy and needs of the surgery candidates.
Unfortunately, non-surgical face lift is not possible. There are procedures performed with various threads (minimally invasive or non-invasive) and devices that hang the facial skin with the aim of mimicking the result to be achieved with surgery, but these are not lifting in the real sense. Hanging procedures performed on the face can never create a similar effect and are not permanent. Skin tissue has no carrying feature. A full face lift cannot be mentioned unless the carrying connective tissue under the facial skin is revised. Devices, on the other hand, only have a tightening effect on the facial skin, and this does not mean a face lift.
Those who are on average 40 years and older or men and women who have sagging in their neck, face, and mouth corners, and cheeks despite being under 40 are suitable candidates for face lift aesthetics. This surgery can be performed fully or limitedly at earlier ages due to structural and genetic reasons.
The patient who will have one of the face lift surgeries must not use blood thinners and their general health condition should be good. Face lift surgery is unfortunately not suitable for smoking patients, high blood pressure patients, and uncontrolled diabetes patients. If the person uses cigarettes, they should quit smoking ten days before the surgery.
If the person requests, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery, forehead correction, and eyebrow lift surgeries can also be performed together with face lift surgery to ensure the face looks younger.
The surgery is performed in hospital settings, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. Face lift operation can be performed with general anesthesia, as well as with local anesthesia accompanied by intravenous sedation (tranquilizing drugs).
These types of surgeries can take between 3-10 hours depending on the technique and the procedure to be performed.
Tension pain can be felt for 2-3 days after face lift surgery. Other than this, there is no serious pain complaint. The healing process is quite fast. There may be bruises in certain places on the face, but they pass quickly.
The patient can go home on the same day if they wish, but it is more appropriate to stay in the hospital for one night and then be discharged.
There should be a rest period of at least fifteen days. The early period after surgery is usually comfortable. A head wrap and cold pads are applied to the patient in a way that leaves the eyes, nose, and mouth open. Silicone tubes called drains can be used to prevent blood accumulation in the tissue. Drains are removed within two days at the latest. The wrap is completely opened after 2-3 days. General check-up and dressing change are performed. Hair can be washed during this period. If the stitches are not of the dissolving type, they are removed within 5-7 days. Edema and bruises largely disappear in 7-10 days. After that, the patient can apply makeup and return to daily life. However, protection from the sun should be maintained for a few weeks after surgery, and in mandatory cases, measures should be taken using protective creams.
Since surgery scars are hidden, they are not prominent. The scar is hidden in the scalp in the temple region, in front of and behind the ear.
Face lift surgeries provide serious rejuvenation in facial expression and appearance.
A clear figure cannot be given regarding this, but an explanation can be made as follows; if face lift surgery was performed on the person due to facial drop related to advanced age, the patient will return to the age where they had no sagging in their neck and face after the surgery. Along with this, face lift surgeries can sometimes be applied to young patients who structurally have low neck region and middle face.
In the early period after surgery, there will be tissue edema due to surgery trauma. Within 3-4 weeks, the tissue edema passes and the result emerges in a much clearer way.
In face lift surgery, besides general surgery and anesthesia risks, there is a risk of damage to the important sensory and mimic nerves of the face specific to this surgery. Damage is usually temporary and due to nerve edema resulting from coarse trauma. However, there can also be more serious nerve injuries and permanent mimic damage. Additionally, in patients who smoke heavily or have wound healing problems, healing problems can also be seen in the skin.
There are very important mimic and sensory nerves in the face. The surgery area is also where these nerve muscle structures are. For this reason, face lift surgeries must be performed quite carefully and diligently.
The effects of face lift surgery are permanent. However, as time flows, aging will continue and therefore after a time, the same region may need to be processed again. However, usually such a need is not felt before 10 years.
