Breast Augmentation Methods

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can now be performed very comfortably and safely. Breasts are structures that complete the beautiful appearance of the female body. Shoulder width, chest circumference, waist and hip circumference ratios hold a very important place in a woman's body looking attractive and beautiful. Breasts can be small for various reasons. One may be smaller than the other, asymmetrical. Congenitally, one may not be present at all. Silicone breast implants and fat injection techniques are used to make both breasts equal or to increase their volume.

What is a Breast Prosthesis?

Breast prostheses, also known as breast implants, can be roughly classified into silicone-filled and saline (water-filled) models. Silicone-filled models are much more widely used. Silicone breast implants are medical materials compatible with our bodies, consisting of a soft semi-fluid silicone gel inside a strong outer silicone shell. Silicone breast implants have anatomical (commonly known as teardrop-shaped) and round-shaped models. These are also divided into models such as low-profile wide, medium-profile, and high-profile narrow-based shapes. There are many more diverse models according to brands.

Breast Prosthesis Surgery

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital setting in the operating room. The operation takes about 1 hour.

    Incision options:

  • * Under the breast crease (Submammary)

    * Under the nipple (Periareolar)

    * Under the armpit (Axillary)

  • Whatever the entry site, the scars will be prominent initially and will become indistinct over time. The prosthesis can be placed under the breast tissue, under the chest muscle (pectoral), or under the chest muscle fascia, depending on the patient's breast structure. Each application has advantages and disadvantages.

Post-Breast Prosthesis Period

The post-surgery period is comfortable. Pain is very minimal. If the prosthesis is placed behind the chest muscle, the pain is a bit more and there may be limitation in arm movements for a few days. After surgery, a bra or bandage is applied to the breast. Dissolving stitches are used. There is no need for stitch removal with dissolving stitches. In the early period, there is slight swelling. The patient can return to work within 3-4 days. After 3 weeks, the prosthesis settles in place and the breast normalizes. The patient is recommended to stay away from heavy sports (requiring jumping-running) for 2 months. Breast augmentation surgery with a prosthesis is generally a surgery that gives good and permanent results.

Breast Augmentation with Fat Injection

Research conducted in recent years has proven that the human body's most important adult stem cell store is its own fat tissue, and that fat in the abdominal region contains much more stem cells than bone marrow. Patients with excess fat tissue in their body are the most suitable candidates for the breast augmentation method with fat injection. The plurality of donor sites from which fat cells will be taken in the body facilitates the procedure to be applied. Fat removal is also performed on the patient at the same time. Fats are obtained more slowly, in a way different from the normal liposuction technique. Subsequently, the obtained fats are centrifuged to remove the useless parts. Fat tissue rich in stem cells is made ready for transfer and transferred under the breast tissue. Fat cells, which are quite rich in terms of stem cells, help in repairing in the region where they are injected and help the tissue in damaged parts return to its former state.

Fat Filling Application

The surgery is performed under sedation or general anesthesia. The patient can easily be discharged on the same day. Afterwards, there will be a slight pain in the chest area and the area where fat was taken. There will be slight swelling in the chest area, it will improve to a large extent after 15 days. The permanence of the given fats is 40-50% on average. With this method, usually one cup size growth is achieved. If desired, the same procedure can be repeated one more time after 6 months.

Various filling materials have also been used for breast augmentation over time. However, for me, while silicone and fat injection are available in practice, they are not applications worth focusing on.

My preference and recommendation is always breast augmentation surgery with silicone-based implants. It is much more reliable and controllable. It is a method with easy reversal in case it is not desired or a problem occurs. The prostheses are removed and the breast returns to its former state within a short time. Fat injection is also a good method, but it is not possible to take it back. Catching symmetry is a bit more difficult. It is not as easy to apply as breast prostheses and it is more difficult to provide symmetry. It can form fat cysts over time.

Of course, for me, the breast prosthesis is the gold standard.
